David subdues the Philistines, v. 1. As also the Moabites, 2. Smites likewise Hadadezer king of Zobah, 3. And the Syrians of Damascus that came to help him, 5. Places a garrison in Syria of Damascus, 6. Is honored by king Toi with sumptuous presents, which he dedicates to God with the great prey, 10. Smites the Edomites, and places a garrison in their land, 13. An account of David's government, and his most important officers, 15.

AND after this ita came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took 1Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.

And he smote Moab, and 2measured them with a line, 3casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David's servants, and 4brought gifts.

¶David smote also 5Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of 6Zobah, as 7he went 8to recover his border at the river Euphrates.

And David tookb from him a thousand 9chariots, and seven hundred 10horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghedc11all the 12chariot horses, but reserved of them for an hundred chariots.

And when 13the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and 14brought gifts. And the LORD 15preserved David whithersoever he went.

And David took the shields of gold that were on the 16servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

And from 17Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.

¶When 18Toi king of 19Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

Then Toi sent 20Joram his son unto king David, 21to salute him, and 22to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had 23wars with Toi. And Joram brought 24with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:

Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;

12

Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

Andd David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians 25in the valley of salt, being 26eighteen thousand men.

¶And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became 27David’s servants. And the LORD 28preserved David whithersoever he went.

15

And David reigned over all Israel; and David 29executed 30judgment and justice unto all his people.

16

And Joabe the son of Zeruiah was 31over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was 32recorder;

17

And 33Zadok the son of Ahitub, and 34Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the 35priests; and Seraiah was the 36scribe;

18

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the 37Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were 38chief rulers.
