Psalm 107 ©

The psalmist exhorts and excites to the praising and celebrating of the Lord all those who are delivered from their adversaries, all who were straying and wandering strangers, captives or prisoners, sick, all sea-faring people, and finally all other human beings, by reason of the changeable condition of every land and person, through God’s all-disposing Providence, commending them who carefully observe this.

1

O GIVE thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

2

Let 1the redeemed of the LORD 2say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

3

And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from 3the south.

4

They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary 4way; they found 5no city to dwell in.

5

Hungry and thirsty, their soul 6fainted in them.

6

Then they cried unto the LORD 7in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

7

And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to 8a city of habitation.

8

9Oh that men would praise 10the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works 11to the children of men!

9

For he satisfieth 12the longing soul, and filleth 13the hungry soul with goodness.

10

Such as sit in darkness and 14in the shadow of death, being bound 15in affliction and iron;

11

Because they rebelled against 16the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

12

Therefore 17he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.

13

18Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

14

He brought them 19out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.

15

20Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

16

For he hath 21broken 22the gates of brass, and 23cut the bars of iron in sunder.

17

24Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

18

Their 25soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and 26they draw near unto the gates of death.

19

27Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

20

He sent 28his word, and 29healed them, and 30delivered them from their 31destructions.

21

32Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

22

Anda let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

23

They that 33go down to the sea in ships, that dob business 34in great waters;

24

These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders 35in the deep.

25

For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up 36the waves thereof.

26

37They mount up to the heaven, they go down again 38to the depths: 39their soul is melted because 40of trouble.

27

They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are 41at their wits' end.

28

Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.

29

42He maketh the storm a calm, so that 43the waves thereof are 44still.

30

Then are they glad because 45they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

31

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

32

Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him 46in the assembly 47of the elders.

33

48He 49turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the 50watersprings into dry ground;

34

51A fruitful land 52into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

35

53He turneth thec wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground 54into watersprings.

36

And 55there he maketh 56the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare 57a city for habitation;

37

And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits 58of increase.

38

He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle 59to decrease.

39

Again, they are minished and 60brought low through oppression, 61affliction, and sorrow.

40

62He 63poureth contempt 64upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

41

Yet setteth hed the poor 65on high from affliction, and 66maketh him families like a flock.

42

Thee righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and 67allf iniquity shall stop her mouth.

43

68Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, 69even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.
