THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
*JOHN

John 14 ©

1 Christ comforts His disciples concerning His going away to the Father, seeing He went to prepare them dwelling places in His Father’s house. 5 Declares to Thomas that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. 7 And to Philip that he who sees Him, sees the Father. 12 Promises them that they shall do great miracles, and obtain what they shall pray for in His Name. 16 And that they shall receive the Comforter, the Holy Ghost. 18 And not be left orphans. 21 Exhorts them to His love, and obedience of His commandments, with the promise of His and His Father’s abode with them. 26 And that the Holy Ghost shall bring all things to their remembrance. 27 Leaves His peace to them. 28 Declares that they ought to rejoice that He goes to the Father. 30 Shows His willingness to obey His Father even in suffering.

1

LET not your heart be 1troubled: 2ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2

In 3my Father’s house are many 4mansions: 5if it were not so, I would have 6told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will 7come again, and receive you unto myself; thata8where I am, there ye 9may be also.

4

And whither I go ye 10know, and 11the way ye know.

5

Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6

Jesus saith unto him, 12Ib am the way, thec truth, andd the life: noe man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7

If ye had 13known me, ye should have known my 14Father also: and 15from henceforth ye 16know him, and have seen him.

8

Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9

Jesus saith unto him, 17Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? hef that hath 18seen me hath seen 19the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

10

Believest thou not thatg I am in the Father, and the Father in me? 20theh words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: buti the Father that 21dwelleth in me, he 22doeth the works.

11

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or 23else believe me 24for the very works' sake.

12

Verily,j verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do 25also; and 26greater works than these shall he do; because I go 27unto my Father.

13

Andk28whatsoever ye shall ask 29in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified 30in the Son.

14

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15

¶Ifl ye love me, keep my commandments.

16

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another 31Comforter, that he may 32abide with you for ever;

17

Even the Spirit 33of truth; whom 34the world cannot receive, because it 35seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he 36dwelleth 37with you, and 38shall be in you.

18

Im will not leave you 39comfortless: I will come to you.

19

Yet a little while, and the world 40seeth me no more; but 41ye see me: because I 42live, 43ye shall live also.

20

At that 44day ye shall 45know 46that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

21

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will 47manifest myself to him.

22

48Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, 49how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

23

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our 50abode with him.

24

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: andn the word which ye hear 51is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

25

These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present 52with you.

26

Buto the Comforter, which is the Holyp Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, heq shall teach you all things, and bring all things 53to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

27

54Peacer I leave with you, 55my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart 56be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28

Yes have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and 57come again unto you. 58If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is 59greater than I.

29

And now I have told you before it come to pass, that,t when it is come to pass, ye 60might believe.

30

Hereafter I will 61not talk much with you: foru62the prince of this world 63cometh, and hath nothing 64in me.

31

But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gavev me commandment, 65even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
