THE BOOK OF
JOB

Job 18 ©

Bildad charges Job for much talking, v. 1, etc. For his pride, 3. And anger, 4. He recounts the judgments of God, that fall upon the wicked, 5. To the terror of them who come after, 20. He concludes with an asseveration of his discourse, 21.

1

THEN answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

2

1How long will it be ere 2ye 3make an end of words? 4mark, and afterwards we will speak.

3

Wherefore are 5we counted 6as beasts, and reputed 7vile 8in your sight?

4

Hea teareth 9himself in his anger: shall the earth be 10forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?

5

11Yea, 12the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the 13spark 14of his fire shall not shine.

6

15The light shall be dark in his 16tabernacle, and his 17candle shall be put out with him.

7

18The steps of his strength shall be straitened,b and 19his own counsel shall cast him down.

8

For he is cast into a net 20by his own feet, and he walketh upon 21a snare.

9

The ginc22shall take him by the heel, and thed23robber shall prevail against him.

10

The snare is 24laid for him in the ground, and a 25trap for him in the way.

11

26Terrorse shall make him afraid on every side, and shall 27drive him to his feet.

12

His 28strength shallf be 29hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready 30at his side.

13

It shall devour the 31strength of his skin: even the 32firstborn of death shall devour his strength.

14

Hisg33confidence shall be 34rooted out of his tabernacle, and 35it shall bring him to 36the king of terrors.

15

37It shall dwell in his tabernacle, 38because it is none of his: 39brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

16

40His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his 41branch be cut off.

17

Hish remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name 42in the street.

18

43He shall be driven from 44light into 45darkness, and chased out of the world.

19

Hei shall neither have son nor 46nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

20

They 47that come after him shall be astonied at 48his day, as they 49that went before were 50affrighted.

21

Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is 51the place of him 52that knoweth not God.
