Destruction is threatened both to Israel and Judah for their impiety and idolatry.

1

SET athe trumpet to 1thy mouth. bHe shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, cbecause they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

2

Israel dshall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

3

Israel hath ecast off the thing that is good: the enemy fshall pursue him.

4

gThey have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: hof their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

5

iThy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; jmine anger is kindled against them: khow long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

6

lFor from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: mbut the calf of nSamaria shall be broken in pieces.

7

For othey have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no 2stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, pthe strangers shall swallow it up.

8

Israel is qswallowed up: now shall they be ramong the Gentiles sas a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

9

For they are tgone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim uhath hired 3lovers.

10

Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now vwill I gather them, and they shall 4sorrow a little for wthe burden of xthe king of princes.

11

yBecause Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

12

zI have written to him athe great things of my law, but bthey were counted as a *strange thing.

z De. 4.6,8.
13

5They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it;  cbut the LORD accepteth them not; now will he dremember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they eshall return to Egypt.

14

For fIsrael hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but gI will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
