The afflictions of Israel, or of the church of God are various and manifold, but God delivers them out of all, and all their enemies must perish.
A1 Song of degrees.
MANY a time have 2they afflicted me 3from my youth, may 4Israel now say:
Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.
The 5plowers 6plowed upon my back: they made long their 7furrows.
The LORD is righteous: he 8hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
9Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate 10Zion.
Leta them be as the 11grass upon the 12housetops, which withereth 13afore it groweth up:
14Wherewith the mower filleth not his 15hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his 16bosom.
Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD be 17upon you: 18we bless you in the name of the LORD.
