The Lord reproves the Jews who relied on the external temple, v. 1. And shows whom they are who please Him, 2. A threat against the rebellious, 4. Afterward He comforts the godly, 5. The Lord promises that he shall increase and bless His church, 7. Unto the joy and pleasure of those who love her, 10. But He shall destroy her enemies, 15. Of the calling of the Gentiles, 18. And the hellish punishment of the ungodly, 24.

1

THUS saith the LORD, 1Thea heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: 2where is the house that ye build unto me? and 3where is the place of my rest?

2

4For all those things hath mine 5hand made, 6and all those things 7have been, saith the LORD: 8but to this man will I look, even to him that is 9poor and of a 10contrite spirit, 11and trembleth at my word.

3

He that 12killeth an ox is as if he 13slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he 14cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered 15swine’s blood; he that burneth 16incense, as if he 17blessed 18an idol. Yea, 19they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth 20in their abominations.

4

21I also will choose 22their delusions, and will bring 23their fears upon them; becauseb when 24I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they didc evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.

5

25Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; 26Your brethren that hated you, that 27cast you out 28for my name’s sake, 29said, 30Letd the LORD be glorified: 31but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

6

32A voice of noise33 from 34the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth recompence to his enemies.

7

Before 35she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered 36of a man child.

8

Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall 37the earth be made to bring forth 38in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as 39Zion travailed, she brought forth 40her children.

9

41Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and 42shut the womb? saith thy God.

10

Rejoice 43ye 44with Jerusalem, and be glad 45with her, all ye that love her: 46rejoice for joy with her, all ye that 47mourn for her:

11

48That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts 49of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted 50with the abundance of her glory.

12

For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend 51peace 52to her 53like a river, and 54the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall 55ye 56suck, ye shall be borne 57uponeher sides, and be 58dandled upon her knees.

13

As one whom his mother comforteth, so 59will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted 60in Jerusalem.

14

And when ye see this, 61your heart shall rejoice, and 62your bones shall flourish 63like an herb: and 64the hand of the LORD shall be known 65toward his servants, and his 66indignation toward his enemies.

15

For, behold, the LORD will come 67with fire, and with his 68chariots like a whirlwind, to 69render 70his anger with fury, and 71his rebuke with flames of fire.

16

For by 72fire 73and by 74his sword will the LORD plead 75with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.

17

They 76that 77sanctify themselves, and purify themselves 78in the gardens 79behind one tree 80in the midst, 81eating swine’s flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be 82consumed together, saith the LORD.

18

For I know 83their works and their thoughts: 84it shall come, 85that I will gather all nations and 86tongues; and they shall come, and 87see 88my glory.

19

And I will set 89a sign among them, and I will send those that 90escape of them unto the nations, 91to Tarshish, 92Pul, and 93Lud, 94that draw the bow, to 95Tubal, and 96Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard 97my fame, neither have seen my glory; and 98they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.

20

And they shall bring 99all your brethren 100for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations 101upon horses, and in chariots, and 102in litters, and upon mules, and 103upon swift beasts, 104to my holy mountain 105Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.

21

And I will also take 106of them 107for priests and for Levites, saith the LORD.

22

For as 108the newf heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall 109your seed and your name remain.

23

And it shall come to pass, that 110from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath 111to another, shall 112all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

24

And 113they shall go forth, and 114look upon 115the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for 116theirg worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be 117an abhorring unto 118all flesh.
