Ahasuerus lays a tribute upon the land, v. 1, etc. Mordecai’s high dignity and favor with the Jews, whose welfare he seeks, 3.

AND the king 1Ahasuerus laid a 2tribute 3upon the land, and upon the 4isles of the sea.

And 5all the acts of his power and of his might, and the declaration of the greatness of Mordecai, 6whereunto the king advanced him, 7are they not written in the book 8of the chronicles of the kings of 9Media and Persia?

For Mordecai the Jew 10was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking 11the wealth of his people, and 12speaking 13peace to all his 14seed.
