Ephesians 2 ©

1 To show the greatness of the benefit which God bestows upon us in our restoration, the apostle relates the miserable state out of which we are delivered. 4 And declares that of mere grace, when we were dead in our sins, He has quickened us with Christ, and placed us in heaven with Him. 8 That therefore we were saved by faith, not from works. 10 But that God created us in Christ unto good works. 11 He testifies further that the Gentiles were without the covenant of God, and without hope of salvation. 13 But now in Christ, Who has taken away the wall of partition, and the law of ordinances, are become co-partners of this grace. 17 Wherefore both Gentiles and Jews are called by the Gospel, and by one and the same Spirit have access to God. 19 Whereby he concludes that than together they are built upon the foundation of the prophets and apostles, whose Cornerstone is Christ. 21 And that unto a temple and habitation of God.

1

AND youa1hath he quickened,b who were 2dead in trespasses and sins;

2

Whereinc3in time past ye walked 4according to the course of this world, 5according to the princed6of the power of the air, the spirit 7that now worketh in 8the children of disobedience:

3

Among whom also 9we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts 10of our flesh, fulfilling 11the desires of the flesh and 12of the mind; and were 13by nature 14the children of wrath, even as 15others.

4

But God, who is 16rich in mercy, 17for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5

Even when we were 18dead in sins, hathe19quickened us together 20with Christ, (byf grace ye are saved;)

6

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places 21in Christ Jesus:

7

That 22in the ages to come he 23might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

8

For 24by grace are ye 25saved 26through faith; and 27that not of yourselves: itg is the gift of God:

9

28Not of works, lesth any man should boast.

10

For 29we are his workmanship, createdi in Christ Jesus unto good works, which 30God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

11

Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles 31in the flesh, who are called 32Uncircumcision by that which is called the 33Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12

That at that time ye were 34without Christ, being aliens from 35the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers fromj36the covenants of promise, having 37no hope, and 38without God in the world:

13

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were 39far off are made nigh by 40the blood of Christ.

14

Fork he is 41our peace, who hath made 42both one, and hath broken down the middle wall 43of partition between us;

15

Having abolished 44in his flesh 45the enmity, even 46the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make 47in himself 48of twainl49one new man, so making 50peace;

16

And that he might reconcile 51both unto God 52in one body by the cross, 53having slain 54the enmity 55thereby:

17

Andm56came and preached 57peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

18

Forn58through him we both have access by 59one Spirit unto the Father.

19

Now therefore 60ye are 61no more strangers and foreigners, but 62fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the 63householdo of God;

20

And are builtp uponq64the foundation of the apostles and prophets, 65Jesus Christ himselfr being the 66chief corner stone;

21

Ins whom all the building fitly framedt together groweth untou an holy 67temple in the Lord:

22

68In whom 69ye also are builded together for an habitation of God 70through the Spirit.
