THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET

Isaiah 61 ©
Christ shows that He is anointed, and wherefore, as also what excellent mercies He would bestow upon His church, v. 1, etc. He likewise speaks again of the calling of the Gentiles, 5. Of the mercies which God will bestow upon His people, 6. The joy that arises from it unto the church of God, 10.
THE1 Spirita of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath 2anointed me 3to preach good tidings unto 4the meek; he hath sent me 5to bind up 6the brokenhearted, to 7proclaim liberty 8to the captives, and the opening of the prison 9to them that are bound;
10To proclaim 11the acceptable year of the LORD, and 12the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all 13that mourn;
To appoint unto them that mourn in 14Zion, to give unto them 15beauty for 16ashes, 17the oil of joy for mourning, 18the garment of praise for the 19spirit of 20heaviness; that they might be called 21trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
¶And they shall build 22theb old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations 23of many generations.
And 24strangers shall stand and 25feed your 26flocks, and 27the sons of the alien shall be 28your plowmen and 29your vinedressers.
But ye shall be named the 30Priestsc of the LORD: 31men shall call you the Ministers of our God: 32ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their 33glory shall ye boast yourselves.
¶ 34For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they 35shall 36rejoice in their portion: therefore 37in their land 38they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto 39them.
For I the LORD love judgment, I hate 40robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct 41their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant 42with them.
43And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and 44their offspring among the people: all that see them 45shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.
46I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with 47the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with 48ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her 49jewels.
For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things 50that are sown in it to spring forth; 51so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
