1 Various other kings assemble against Israel by the waters of Merom. 6 God encourageth Joshua, who smiteth them. 10 Hazor is taken and burned; and the cities of the other kings are taken and spoiled. 16 All the country taken by Joshua. 21 The Anakims are cut off. 23 The land being subdued resteth from war.
And when all these kings nwere 1met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.
¶And the LORD said unto Joshua, oBe not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou pshalt *hough their horses, and burn qtheir chariots with fire.
And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them : there was not 4any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.
So Joshua took ball that land, cthe hills, and all the south country, and all the land of dGoshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the emountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;
There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, *save ithe Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.
For it was of the LORD jto harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, kas the LORD commanded Moses.
So Joshua took the whole land, raccording to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and sJoshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel taccording to their divisions by their tribes. And the land urested from war.
