THE FIRST EPISTLE GENERAL OF
PETER

1 Peter 5 ©

1 Peter exhorts the elders that they duly feed the flock of God. 4 And promises them the crown of glory for recompense. 5 afterwards he exhorts the young to subjection and humility. 7 And everyone that he should cast his care upon God. 8 Sets before their eyes the subtlety and the power of the devil, and exhorts them to watch against it. 10 Prays to God to strengthen them. 11 And praises Him. 12 Declares the reason why he wrote to them briefly. 13 And concludes the epistle with mutual salutation, and a wish of peace.

1

THE 1elders which are among you I exhort, who am 2also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also 3a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2

4Feeda the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, 5not by constraint, but willingly; notb for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3

Neitherc as being lords over God’s 6heritage, butd being 7ensamplese to the flock.

4

And when 8thef chief Shepherd shall appear, yeg shall receive a crown of glory 9that fadeth not away.

5

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, allhof you be subject 10one to another, and be 11clothed with humility: fori God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

6

12Humblej yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7

Castingk all your care upon him; forl he careth for you.

8

Bem sober, be vigilant; becausen your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may 13devour:

9

Whomo resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions 14are accomplished 15in your brethren that are in the world.

10

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered ap while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

11

To him be glory and dominion 16for ever and ever. Amen.

12

By 17Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, 18as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is 19the true grace of God wherein ye stand.

13

The church that is 20at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth 21Marcus 22my son.

14

Greet ye one another withq a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
