1 The time when Amos prophesied. 3 He sheweth God's judgments upon Syria, 6 upon the Philistines, 9 upon Tyrus, 11 upon Edom, 13 upon Ammon.
THE awords of Amos, who was bamong the herdmen of cTekoa, which he saw concerning Israel din the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of eJeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the fearthquake.
Thus saith the LORD; iFor three transgressions of Damascus, 1and for four, jI will not 2turn away the punishment thereof; because they have kthreshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:
oI will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from 3the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from 4the house of Eden: and pthe people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.
¶Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of qGaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; rbecause they 5carried away captive the whole captivity, sto deliver them up to Edom:
But tI will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
And uI will cut off the inhabitant from vAshdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will wturn mine hand against Ekron: and the xremnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.
¶Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; ybecause they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not 6the brotherly covenant:
But zI will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.
¶Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of aEdom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; bbecause he did pursue chis brother with the sword, and 7did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:
¶Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of eAmmon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; fbecause they have 8ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might genlarge their border:
But hI will kindle a fire in the wall of iRabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
And jtheir king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.
