The third vision, namely a Man with a measuring line, measuring the place of the new Jerusalem, vs. 1, 2. Showing therewith the great multitude of the inhabitants of this city, and how God would protect the same, 3, etc. After that the Jews, still remaining in Babylon, are exhorted to repair home, 6. With the promise that God would destroy their enemies, 9. Of the conversion of the Gentiles, 11. And God’s continual care for His church, 12.
I LIFTED up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold 1a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, 2To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.
And, behold, 3the angel that talked 4with me 5went forth, and 6another angel 7went out to meet him,
And 8said 9unto him, Run, speak to 10this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited 11as towns without walls for the multitude of men and 12cattle therein:
For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her 13a wall of fire round about, and 14will be the glory in the midst of her.
¶ 15Ho, ho, come forth, and 16flee 17from the land of the north, saith the LORD: 18for I have spread you abroad 19as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.
20Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts; 21After the glory hath he sent me 22unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the 23apple of his eye.a
24For, behold, 25I will shake mine hand 26upon them, and they shall be a spoil to 27their servants: 28and ye shall know 29that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.
¶ 30Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and Ib will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
And 31many nations shall be joined to the LORD 32in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst 33of thee, and thou shalt know 34that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.
And the LORD shall 35inherit 36Judah his portion 37in the holy land, and shall 38choose Jerusalem again.
39Be silent, O 40all flesh, before the LORD: 41for he is raised up 42out of his holy habitation.
