THE
REVELATION
OF
JOHN THE DIVINE*
Revelation 2 ©
1 Christ charges John to write, first to the angel of the church of Ephesus. 2 Whom He commends for his care and diligence in withstanding the bad and for divers other virtues. 4 But reproves him for the remissness of his first zeal and love. 7 Promising to the conquerors to give them of the tree of life. 8 Secondly, to him of Smyrna, whom He likewise commends for sundry virtues. 10 But warns him of the afflictions that would come upon him, with a promise of the crown of life unto the conquerors. 12 Thirdly, to him of Pergamos, whom He commends for his steadfastness in affliction, but reproves him for his slackness of withstanding the followers of the doctrine of Balaam and the Nicolaitans. 17 Promising nevertheless unto the conquerors, the hidden manna, with a white Electing-stone. 18 Fourthly, to him of Thyatira, whom He commends for his growth in good things. 20 But rebukes him for permitting Jezebel to prophesy. 22 Threatening to punish her, with her adherents and children. 24 And warning such as did not embrace those depths of Satan to keep close to what they had. 26 And promises him, who overcomes, that He shall give him power over the Gentiles, and that He shall give him the morning star.
UNTO 1the angel of the church of 2Ephesus write; These things saith 3he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who 4walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
5I know thy works, and 6thy labour, and 7thy patience, and how thou canst not bear 8them which are evil: and thou hast 9tried them 10which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left 11thy first love.
Remember therefore 12from whence thou art fallen, and 13repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee 14quickly, and will remove 15thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds 16of the Nicolaitans,a which I also hate.
He that hath an 17ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of 18theb tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
And unto 19the angel of the church in 20Smyrna write; These things saith 21thec first and the last, 22which was dead, and 23is alive;
I know thy works, and tribulation, and 24poverty, (but thou art 25rich) and I know 26the blasphemy of them which 27say they are Jews, and 28are not, but are 29the synagogue of Satan.
30Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, 31the devil shall cast some of you 32into prison, that ye may be 33tried; and ye shall have tribulation 34ten days: be thou faithful 35unto death, and I will give thee 36a crown of life.
Hed that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of 37the second death.
And to the angel of the church in 38Pergamos write; These things saith he 39which hath the sharp sworde with two edges;
I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s 40seat is: and 41thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein 42Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there 43them that hold the doctrine 44of Balaam,f who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
So hast thou also them 45that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them 46withg the sword of my mouth.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat 47of the hidden manna, and will give him 48a white stone, and in the stone 49a new name written, 50which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
And unto the angel of the church 51in Thyatira write; These things saith 52the Son of God, whoh hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are 53like fine brass;
I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; 54and the last to be more than the first.
Notwithstanding I have a 55few things against thee, because thou sufferest 56that woman Jezebel,i which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
And I gave her space to repent 57of her fornication; and she repented not.
Behold, 58I will cast her into a bed, and 59them that commit adultery with her 60into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
And I will kill 61her children with death; and all the churches shall know 62thatj I am he which searcheth the reinsk and hearts: andl I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have 63not known 64the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you 65none other burden.
But that which ye have already holdm fast till I come.
And he that overcometh, and keepeth 66my works unto the end, to him will 67In give power 68over the nations:
And 69he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
And I will give him 70the morning star.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
