MICAH

Micah 6 ©

A declaration of God’s controversy with His people, by reason of their unthankfulness for His continual mercies, v. 1, etc. God rejects their sacrifices, and shows what it is He requires, and they stand bound to perform, 6. And forasmuch as the contrary was known among them, namely, unrighteousness, oppression, lies and deceit, together with the idolatrous practice of Omri and Ahab, He threatens them with desolation, famine, helplessness and the sword, 10.

1

HEAR ye now what the LORD saith; Arise, contend thou 1before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.

2

Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and ye 2strong foundations of the earth: for the LORDa hath a 3controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.

3

O my people, 4what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I 5wearied thee? testify against me.

4

For I brought thee up out of the landb of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the 6house of servants; and I 7sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and 8Miriam.

5

O my people, remember now what Balakc king of Moab 9consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from 10Shittimd unto 11Gilgal;e that ye may know the 12righteousness of the LORD.

6

13Wherewith shall I 14come before the LORD, and bow myself before the 15high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a 16year old?

7

17Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? 18shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

8

19He hath 20shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD requiref of thee, but to do 21justly, and to love mercy, and to walk 22humbly 23with thy God?

9

The LORD’S 24voice crieth unto the 25city, and the man of 26wisdom shall see thy 27name: hear ye the 28rod, and 29who hath appointed it.

10

30Are there yet the treasures of 31wickedness in the house of the 32wicked, and the 33scantg34measure that is 35abominable?

11

36Shall I count them pure with the 37wicked balances,h and with the bag of deceitful 38weights?

12

For the rich men 39thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants 40thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is 41deceitfuli in their mouth.

13

Therefore also will I make 42thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.

14

Thou shalt eat,j but not be satisfied; and thy 43casting down shall be in the 44midst of thee; and thou shalt 45take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou 46deliverest will I give up to the sword.

15

Thou shalt sow,k but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt 47tread the 48olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and 49sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine.

16

¶For the 50statutes of Omril are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab,m and ye walk in 51their counsels; 52that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants 53thereof an 54hissing: therefore ye shall bear the 55reproach of my people.
