THE BOOK OF
DANIEL

Daniel 10 ©

Daniel, humbling himself by fasting and prayer before God, sees a vision, v. 1, etc. being hereby sorely affrighted, is strengthened and comforted by the angel, 10. And he is told what would befall the people of the Jews in future times, 14. About this he is again sorely affrighted and astonished, 15. But is strengthened again by the angel, 19. Who declares unto him how that the prince of Grecia, Alexander the Great, would come, 20.

1

IN1 the third year of 2Cyrus king of Persia 3a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called 4Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, 5but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding 6of the vision.

2

In those days I Daniel 7was mourning 8three full weeks.

3

I ate no 9pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I 10anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

4

And 11in the four and twentieth day 12of the first month, as I was 13by the side of the great river, which is 14Hiddekel;a

5

Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold 15a certain man 16clothed in linen, whose loins were girdedb with fine gold of 17Uphaz:

6

His body also was like 18the beryl, and his face 19as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes 20as lamps of fire, and his 21arms and his 22feet 23like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words 24like the voice of a multitude.

7

And I Daniel 25alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; 26but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.

8

Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for 27myc comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.

9

Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, 28then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.

10

¶And, behold, 29an hand touched me, which set me 30upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.

11

And he said unto me, O Daniel, 31a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and 32stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when 33he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.

12

Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart 34to understand, and 35to chasten thyself before thy God, 36thy words were heard, and I am come 37for thy words.

13

But 38the prince of the kingdom of Persia 39withstood me 40one and twenty days: but, lo, 41Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

14

Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall 42thy people 43in the latter days: 44for yet the vision is for many days.

15

And when he had spoken 45such words unto me, I 46set my face toward the ground, and 47I became dumb.

16

And, behold, one 48like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him 49that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are 50turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.

17

For how can the servant of 51this my lord talk with this my lord? for as 52for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there 53breath left in me.

18

Then there came again and touched 54me 55one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,

19

And said, 56O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, 57be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I 58was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

20

Then said he, 59Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return 60to fight with 61the prince of Persia: and when I am 62gone forth, lo, 63the prince of Grecia shall come.

21

But I will shew thee 64that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is 65none 66that holdeth with me 67in these things, but 68Michael your prince.
