THE SECOND EPISTLE
OF
PAUL THE APOSTLE
TO THE
CORINTHIANS
2 Corinthians 13 ©
1 The apostle now again testifies that, if the previous sins be not amended, he will come without further delay to punish those who have committed them. 3 And really to cause them to experience how powerful Christ is in him. 5 Admonishes them that they should search themselves whether Christ be in them. 7 Wishes again that they would prevent the punishment by well doing. 9 And declares that then he shall rejoice over them. 10 Seeing his power must tend to edification and not to breaking down. 11 Afterwards concludes the epistle with an exhortation to several Christian virtues. 12 With the accustomed salutation. 13 And with a prayer for them unto God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
THIS is 1the third time I am coming to you. Ina the mouth of two 2or three witnesses shall 3every word be established.
I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them 4which heretoforeb have sinned, and to 5all other, that, if I come again, I 6will not spare:
Since ye 7seek a proof of Christ speaking 8in me, which to you-wardc is 9not weak, but is mighty in you.
For though he was 10crucified 11through weakness, 12yet he liveth 13by the power of God. For 14we also are weak 15in him, but we 16shall live with him by the power of God toward you.
17Examined yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; 18prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be 19reprobates?e
But I trust 20that ye shall know that we are not 21reprobates.
Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; 22not that we should 23appear 24approved, but that ye should do that which is honest,f though we be 25as reprobates.
For we can do nothing against the truth, but 26for the truth.
For we are glad, when we are 27weak, and ye are 28strong: and this also we wish, even your 29perfection.
Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use 30sharpness, according to the power whichg the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to 31destruction.
Finally, brethren, farewell. Be 32perfect, be of good comfort, beh of one mind, livei in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
Greetj one another 33with an holy kiss.
All the saints salute you.
34The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and 35the love of God, and 36the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
