Psalm 93

The majesty, stability, power, and holiness, of Christ's kingdom.

1The 1LORD reigneth, he is clothed 2with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: 3the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

1 The meaning of these words is: God is the true and eternal King, Who has reigned from all eternity, reigns still and shall reign eternally, world without end, Psalm 96:10; 97:1; 99:1.

2 Or, highness. See the annotation Job 40 on verse 10.

3 That is, the great weight of this vast earthly globe is balanced only by His power that it does not swerve the least from this or that side. Thus shall the Lord likewise continue and protect His church throughout the world.

2Thy throne is established 4of old: thou art from everlasting.

4 Namely, even from eternity, and in particular (for matter of the actual exercise of judgment) ever since the world was created and established. Compare Prov. 8:22, where this kind of speaking is taken from eternity.

3The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up 5their voice; the floods lift up their waves.

5 Hebr. their voices. Or, their roaring. By the noise of floods and waters is sometimes understood the great stir and rage of tyrants and multitudes against God and His church, Psalm 18:4; 65:7; Isa. 17:12, 13.

4The LORD 6on high is mightier 7than the noise of 8many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

6 That is, in heaven, as Psalm 71:19.

7 Hebr. than the voices. Or, than the roaring.

8 Or, great.

59Thy testimonies are very sure: 10holiness becometh 11thine house, O LORD, 12for ever.

9 That is, Thy Word which Thou hast given us to testify that Thou art our God.

10 Namely, wherewith Thou dost sanctify, endue and adorn Thy children.

11 Understand here not so much the outward structure of the temple or tabernacle, as the living stones, namely the true believers, which are the true church and house of God.

12 Hebr. to length of days, that is, continually, evermore or during many days. See Psalm 23:6.
