Psalm 146

1The Psalmist voweth perpetual praises to God: 3he exhorteth not to trust in man. 5The benefit of trusting God by reason of his power, truth, justice, mercy, and everlasting dominion.


1PRAISE ye the LORD.1 Praise the LORD, O my soul.

2While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

3Puta not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

2 Namely, of such a prince or child of man.

3 That is, his soul. It is a description of death. See the annotation Gen. 35 on verse 18.

4 Namely, man, with the understanding concerning as much as to the body.

5 That is, to the earth from which he was taken or made, Gen. 2:7; 3:19; Psalm 104:29; Eccl. 12:7.

6 That is, intentions.

7 And consequently all the trust and confidence that was put in them.

5Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

6Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:

7Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth 8the prisoners:

9The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the 11way of the wicked he 12turneth upside down.

11 That is, counsels.

12 That is, He destroys the same.

10Thed LORD shall reign for ever, even thy God, 13O Zion, unto all generations. 14Praise ye the LORD.

13 That is, ye, people of Israel, that do honor and serve the true God on mount Zion according to His own ordinance and institution.

14 Thus begins and ends this psalm with these words.
