Psalm 130

1The Psalmist in distress prayeth to God, trusting in his mercy for pardon: 5his own patience in hope: 7he exhorteth Israel to hope in God.

0 A1 Song of degrees.

1 See Psalm 120 in the title.

1OUT2 of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.

2 That is, driven and necessitated to it through the great distress and bottomless oppressions. See Psalm 69:2, 14.

2Lord, 3hear my voice: 4let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

3 All this is spoken after the manner of men.

4 All this is spoken after the manner of men.

3Ifa thou, LORD, shouldest 5mark iniquities, O Lord, 6who shall stand?

a Psalm 143:2.

5 Understand hereby: and shalt punish them in the height of Thy righteousness.

6 Namely, in Thy judgment. As if he would say: no body, surely none.

4But there is forgiveness withb thee, that thou mayest be 7feared.

b 2 Sam. 24:14.

7 Namely, with a filial fear. All those who firmly trust that their sins are forgiven for Christ’s sake, cannot but love God; and like good children fear to offend Him, Luke 7:47.

5 Ic8wait for the LORD, myd soul doth wait, and in his word do 9I hope.

c Psalm 27:14: Hab. 2:3.

8 The meaning is: forasmuch as I know that the LORD is so kind and merciful, I wait with assured confidence for it that He will forgive me my sins according to His promise, and deliver me out of all troubles.

d Psalm 40:1.

9 That is, I long and look for that which He has promised in His Word to all believers, and myself in particular.

6Mye soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

e Psalm 5:3; 119:147; 123:1, 2.

7Let 10Israel hope in the LORD: 11for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

10 As if he said: As I, waiting on the Lord, have obtained help and deliverance, so do also Israel, that is, the church of God and all the godly in particular. Other, O Israel hope in the LORD.

11 That is, for He delivers many persons of many and great sins through His great and manifold compassion.

8And he shall redeem 12Israel from all his iniquities.

12 That is, His people of Israel.
