Psalm 125

1The safety of such as trust in God. 4A prayer for the godly, and against the wicked.

0 A 1Song of degrees.

1 See Psalm 120 in the title.

1THEY that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth 2for ever.

2 That is, as long as the world endures, Mat. 7:24; 16:18.

2As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

3For the 3rod of the wicked shall not rest 4upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth 5their hands unto iniquity.

3 Or, scepter, staff, that is, the persecutions and wrongs, the power and the domination of evil and ungodly men, who are altogether given up to wickedness, and cannot endure the godly, they shall not always have the mastery over the honest and godly party. God does visit truly His own for His honor and to their own good, but He does not utterly forsake them.

4 Or, over the lot of the righteous. That is, over the land and the people of them who fear and honor God, as Joshua 18:11; 1 Peter 5:3.

5 That is, through impatience under a long continued trial or temptation, take hold of unlawful means of deliverance. See Psalm 37 on verse 8; 1 Cor. 10:13.

4Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.

5As for 6such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall 7lead them forth 8with the workers of iniquity: but 9peace shall be 10upon Israel.

6 That is, those who are not single hearted, but double minded, false and perverse.

7 That is, He shall slay or punish them.

8 That is, He shall hold them alike, and punish them as severely altogether as those who practice their villainies openly.

9 Or, peace shall be over Israel. That is, temporal and eternal happiness.

10 That is, upon the people of God.
