Psalm 113

An exhortation to praise God for his merciful condescension to his creatures.

1PRAISE ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.

21Blessed be thea name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.

1 Or, Praised.

a Dan. 2:20.

3Fromb2the rising of the sun 3unto the going down of the same the LORD's name is to be praised.

bMal. 1:11.

2 That is, throughout the entire world.

3 That is, throughout the entire world.

4The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory 4above the heavens.

4 That is, it does extend itself further than heaven and earth.

5Who is like unto the LORD our God, 5who dwelleth on high,

5 Hebr. exalteth himself to dwell.

66Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

6 Hebr. humbleth himself to see. As if he would say: Although He is ever so great and highly exalted, yet He disdains not to cast His eyes and tender regard upon all His creatures, and to guide and govern them by His Providence.

7Hec raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy 7out of the dunghill;

c1 Sam. 2:8; Psalm 107:41.

7 Or, out of the mire, that is, from a low and despicable condition, as 1 Kings 16:2. To lift out of the dunghill, signifies the same, so here, as 1 Sam. 2:8; Lam. 4:5. See likewise the annotation at Psalm 22 on verse 29.

8That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

98He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be 9a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.

8 That is, Who gives a family to the barren woman, who before had no family at all.

9 Namely, rejoicing in or over the children whom He bestows upon her. See Psalm 68:6.
