Numbers 29

1The offering at the feast of trumpets, 7on the day of humiliation, and 12, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35on the eight days of the feast of tabernacles.

1AND in the 1seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: ita is a day 2of blowing the trumpets unto you.

1 See of this month Lev. 23 on verse 24.

a Lev. 23:24.

2 This feast is thus called, because of its being published and known by the sounding of trumpets to the people. See Lev. 23 on verse 24.

2And ye shall offer a burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the LORD; one 3young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the 4first year without blemish:

3 Hebr. son of a bullock. Also verses 8, 13, 17. See Lev. 1 on verse 14.

4 Hebr. sons of the year; that is, one year old. Also verses 8, 13, 17, etc. See Lev. 23 on verse 18.

3And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three 5tenth deals for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram,

5 Namely, of an ephah, and so in the sequel. See Num. 28 on verse 5.

4And one tenth deal for 6one lamb, throughout the seven lambs:

6 That is, to each lamb. See Num. 28 on verse 13. Also below, verses 10, 15.

5And one kid of the goats for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you:

6Beside 7the burnt offering of the month, and his meat offering, and the 8daily burnt offering, and his meat offering, and their drink offerings, 9according unto their manner, for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.

7 Which was to be offered on the first day of each month, Num. 28:11, 12, etc.; 2 Chron. 2:4; so that this ordinary offering of the new months was not to be neglected for the sake of the aforementioned (offerings).

8 See Num. 28 on verse 6 and below, verses 11, 16, etc.

9 That is, according to the law which God had commanded and appointed thereof. See Lev. 5 on verse 10.

7¶And ye shall have on the 10tenth day of this seventh month an holy convocation; and yeb shall afflict 11your souls: ye shall not do any work therein:

10 This day was the day of expiation or atonement, whereof one may read Lev. 16:29, 30; 23:27.

b Lev. 16:29, 31; 23:27.

11 That is, to humble your persons before the LORD, by calling to mind and confessing your sins, by fasting, by prayer and with a full purpose of heart to amend your life. See Lev. 16 on verse 29.

8But ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD for a sweet savour; one young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year; they shall be unto you without blemish:c

c Num. 28:19.

9And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals to a bullock, and two tenth deals to one ram,

1012A several tenth deal for one lamb, throughout the seven lambs:

11One kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the 13sin offering of atonement, and the continual burnt offering, and the meat offering of it, and their drink offerings.

13 Whereof one may read Lev. 16:11, 15; which, notwithstanding the other sacrifices commanded here on the day of atonement, were also to be offered on the same (day). As it is repeatedly stated, the daily sacrifice must be continued, however on certain days, sundry other sacrifices were appointed besides the same. See verses 16, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 38, 39.

12¶And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an 14holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days:

14 Understand the feast of tabernacles; whereof see Lev. 23:34; Deut. 16:13.

13And ye shall offer a burnt offering, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD; 15thirteen young bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year; they shall be without blemish:

15 Namely, on the first day of this feast; for, on the second there were but twelve to be offered, on the third but eleven, and so on, so that each day following one less was offered as the day before. See verses 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32.

14And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto 16every bullock of the thirteen bullocks, two tenth deals to each ram of the two rams,

16 That is, to each bullock, as also verse 4; and so in the sequel.

15And a several tenth deal to each lamb of the fourteen lambs:

16And one kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, his meat offering, and his drink offering.

17¶And 17on the second day ye shall offer twelve young bullocks, two rams, fourteen lambs of the first year without spot:

17 Namely, of the feast of tabernacles, and so in the sequel.

18And their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, 18after the manner:

18 See on verse 6.

19And one kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, and the meat offering thereof, and their drink offerings.

20¶And 19on the third day eleven bullocks, two rams, fourteen lambs of the first year without blemish;

19 Namely, of the aforementioned feast, and also in the sequel.

21And their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:

22And one goat for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, and his meat offering, and his drink offering.

23¶And on the fourth day ten bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year without blemish:

24Their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:

25And one kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, his meat offering, and his drink offering.

26¶And on the fifth day nine bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year without spot:

27And their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:

28And one goat for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, and his meat offering, and his drink offering.

29¶And on the sixth day eight bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year without blemish:

30And their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:

31And one goat for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, his meat offering, and his drink offering.

32¶And on the seventh day seven bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year without blemish:

33And their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:

34And one goat for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, his meat offering, and his drink offering.

35¶On the eighth day ye shalld have a 20solemn assembly: ye shall do no servile work therein:

d Lev. 23:36.

20 Hebr. a day of restraint; because that on this day all manner of servile work was forbidden. See Lev. 23 on verse 36. This was the great day of the feast in which Christ stood up in the temple and called the thirsty souls unto Himself, promising them refreshments, John 7:37.

36But ye shall offer a burnt offering, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: one bullock, one ram, seven lambs of the first year without blemish:

37Their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullock, for the ram, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:

38And one goat for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, and his meat offering, and his drink offering.

39These things ye shall do unto the LORD in your set feasts, beside your 21vows, and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings, and for your meat offerings, and for your drink offerings, and for your peace offerings.

21 These vows and the offerings, here mentioned in the text, were ordinary works of worship, which were not to be neglected because of the extraordinary ones, mentioned in this chapter, which occurred on certain days of the year according to God’s command. See on verse 11.

40And Moses told the children of Israel according to all that the LORD commanded Moses.
