THE FOURTH BOOK OF

MOSES,

Numbers 28

1The Lord's offerings are commanded to be offered in their due season. 3The continual burnt offering. 9The offering on the sabbath, 11on the new moons, 16at the passover, 26in the day of firstfruits.

1AND the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my 1bread for my 2sacrifices made by fire, for a 3sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.

1 Or, food. Hebr. bread. See Lev. 3 on verse 11, and below verse 24.

2 See Lev. 1 on verse 9.

3 See Gen. 8 on verse 21.

3And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the LORD; twoa lambs of the 4first year without spot day by day, for a 5continual 6burnt offering.

a Exod. 29:38.

4 Hebr. sons of one year. And so in the sequel, verses 9, 11, 19, 27.

5 See verse 6 and the annotation.

6 See Gen. 8 on verse 20 and Lev. 6 on verse 9.

4The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer 7at even;

7 That is, between the two ends of the evening, or, between the beginning and the ending of the evening. The evening started at the ninth hour of the day, that is, three hours before the going down of the sun and it ended with the going down thereof. These two ends of the evening are called at even, or two evenings, because the first was the end of the receding day, and the other the beginning of the night to come. See also Exod. 12 on verse 6.

5Andb a 8tenth part of an ephah of flour forc a 9meat offering, mingled with the fourth part of and10hin of beaten oil.

b Exod. 16:36.

8 Called in the Hebrew gomar, otherwise homer or omer. See Exod. 16 on verse 36 and Lev. 5 on verse 11. Hence it appears that when there is mention made of one, two or three parts or more of meal-flour, it is to be understood of so many parts of an ephah.

c Lev. 2:1.

9 See Lev. 2 on verse 1.

d Exod. 29:40.

10 A measure of liquids so called among the Hebrews; whereof see Lev. 19 on verse 36.

6It is a continual burnt offering, which was 11ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.

11 Hebr. made. See of the continual burnt offering, Exod. 29:38, 39, etc., and of the other offerings, Leviticus 23; which by reason that they were not well kept for the space of 39 years in the wilderness, God was pleased then to renew the laws thereof when they were ready now to enter into the land of Canaan, partly that they might be neglected no more, and partly that thence it might appear, that notwithstanding the peoples’ manifold backslidings and turnings aside, God, like a gracious Father, has held them still for a peculiar people and was still desirous to be known and served by them.

7And the 12drink offering thereof shall be the fourth part of an hin for the one lamb: in the 13holy place shalt thou cause the 14strong wine to be 15poured unto the LORD for a drink offering.

12 See Lev. 23 on verse 37.

13 That is, in the court of the tabernacle, upon the altar of the burnt offering; so called likewise 2 Chron. 29:7. See the annotation there.

14 Hebr. schechar. See Lev. 10 on verse 9. Understand wine, as it appears in verse 14 and Exod. 29:40; Lev. 23:13.

15 The Hebrew word means the offering of liquid things, as in Gen. 35:14; Exod. 30:9.

8And the other lamb shalt thou offer at even: as the meat offering of the morning, and as the drink offering thereof, thou shalt offer it, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

9¶And on the sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and the drink offering thereof:

10This is the burnt offering of 16every sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

16 Hebr. in his sabbath. Likewise verse 14 in his month, for, in each, or every month.

11¶And in the 17beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two 18young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot;

17 Hebr. heads; so Exod. 12:2; Num. 10:10.

18 Hebr. the sons of a bullock, as also verses 19, 27. See Lev. 1 on verse 14.

12And three tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one bullock; and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one ram;

13And a 19several tenth deal of flour mingled with oil for a meat offering unto 20one lamb; for a burnt offering of a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.

19 Hebr. a tenth, a tenth. See Gen. 7 on verse 2 and below, verses 21, 29.

20 That is, each lamb. Also Num. 29:4; 1 Kings 10:15 in one year, that is, for each year, etc.

14And their drink offerings shall be half an hin of wine unto a bullock, and the third part of an hin unto a ram, and a fourth part of an hin unto a lamb: this is the burnt offering of 21every month 22throughout the months of the year.

21 Hebr. her month.

22 Or, throughout the months of the year, that is, which are to be offered in the beginning of each month of the year.

15And one kid of the goats for a 23sin offering unto the LORD shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

23 See Lev. 4 on verse 3.

16Ande in the fourteenth day of the first month is the 24passover 25of the LORD.

e Exod. 12:18; 23:15; Lev. 23:5.

24 See Lev. 23 on verse 5.

25 Other, the LORD.

17And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.

18In the firstf day shall be 26an holy convocation;g ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:

f Lev. 23:7.

26 And consequently an holy assembly for Divine worship. Hebr. a convocation of holiness, also verses 25, 26. See Lev. 23 on verse 2.

g assembly*

19But ye shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering unto the LORD; 27two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: they shall be unto you without blemish:

27 Hebr. two sons of a bullock.

20And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth deals shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram;

21A several tenth deal shalt thou offer for every lamb, throughout the seven lambs:

22And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you.

23Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering.

24After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

25And on the seventh day ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work.

26¶Also in the day of the firstfruits, when ye bring a 28new meat offering unto the LORD, 29after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work:

28 See Lev. 23 on verse 16.

29 That is, after that the seven weeks whereof we read Lev. 23:15, 16 shall be passed.

27But ye shall offer 30the burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the LORD; two young bullocks, one ram, seven lambs of the first year;

30 This offering, belonging to this day, is to be distinguished from another, whereof see Lev. 23:18. This served properly for the keeping of Pentecost. This was over and above to prescribe the manner of offering the firstfruits to the LORD, so that both were to be offered, and not the one to be taken away by the other.

28And their meat offering of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto one bullock, two tenth deals unto one ram,

29A several tenth deal unto one lamb, throughout the seven lambs;

30And one kid of the goats, to make an atonement for you.

31Ye shall offer them beside the continual burnt offering, and his meat offering, (they shall be unto you without blemish) and their drink offerings.
