Leviticus 7

1The law of the trespass offering, 11and of the peace offering, whether it be for a thanksgiving, a vow, or a freewill offering. 22The fat and the blood are forbidden to be eaten. 28The priests' portion in the peace offerings. 35Recapitulation.

1LIKEWISE this is the law 1of the trespass offering: it is 2most holy.

1 See Lev. 5 on verse 6.

2 See Lev. 2 on verse 3.

23In the place where 4they kill the 5burnt offering shall they kill the trespass offering: and the blood thereof shall 6he sprinkle round about upon the altar.

3 See of this place, Lev. 1:3.

4 Namely, the priests.

5 See of this offer Lev. 6 on verse 9.

6 One of the priests namely. See Lev. 1:5.

3And he shall offer of it all the fat thereof; the rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards,

4And the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is by the flanks, and the caul that is above the liver, 7with the kidneys, it shall he take away:

7 See Lev. 3 on verse 4.

5And the priest shall burn them upon the altar for an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a trespass offering.

6Every male among the priests shall eat thereof: it shall be eaten 8in the holy place: it is most holy.

8 See Lev. 6 on verse 16.

7As the sin offering is, so is the trespass offering: there is one law for them: the priest that 9maketh atonement therewith shall have 10it.

9 Namely, administering this ceremony, signifying the reconciliation and pointing to the Messiah, Who was to purchase the same. See Lev. 1 on verse 4.

10 Namely, the offer.

8And the priest that offereth any man's burnt offering, even the priest shall have to himself the skin of the burnt offering which he hath offered.

9And all the meat offering that is baken in the oven, and all that is dressed in the fryingpan, and in the pan, shall be the priest's that offereth it.

10And every meat offering, mingled with oil, and 11dry, shall all the sons of Aaron have, 12one as much as another.

11 That is, without oil or drink-offering, as were the meat-offerings for the trespasses, Lev. 5:11 and the offerings of jealousy, Num. 5:15.

12 Hebr. the man as his brother.

11And this is the law 13of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he shall offer unto the LORD.

13 See Lev. 3 on verse 1.

12If he offer it for aa14thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, 15fried.

a Psalm 116:17.

14 Or, confess-offering, acknowledge-offering, whereby the mercies and favors received at God’s hands were with all humility and reverence openly acknowledged and thanks returned unto God for them. See of this offering likewise Lev. 22:29; 2 Chron. 29:31, and 33:16; Psalm 50:14.

15 See Lev. 6 on verse 21.

13Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings.

14And of it he shall offer 16one out of the whole oblation for an 17heave offering unto the LORD, and 18it shall be the priest's that sprinkleth the blood of the peace offerings.

16 Namely, one of the leavened breads mentioned in the previous verse.

17 Understand, such an offering as was to be elevated and lifted up on high by the priest in the offering. See of the same likewise verse 32; Exod. 29:27, 28, and compare herewith the annotation on verse 30.

18 Namely, the heave offering.

15And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day 19that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning.

19 That is, when the sacrifice shall be made.

16But if the sacrifice of his offering be a 20vow, or a 21voluntary offering, itb shall be eaten the same day that he offereth his sacrifice: and on the morrow also the remainder of it shall be eaten:

20 Understand, a pious and religious vow, voluntarily made unto the Lord, in things lawful and of our own disposing, for the glory of God, and manifestation of our thankfulness. Compare Num. 30:2.

21 That is, which someone, not being necessitated by any law, offered unto the Lord out of mere generosity of his heart. See of such offer also Lev. 22:23; Ezek. 46:12.

b Lev. 19:6.

17But the remainder of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burnt with fire.

18And if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings 22be eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be 23accepted, neither shall it be 24imputed unto him that offereth it: it shall be 25an abomination, and 26the soul that eateth of it shall bear 27his iniquity.

22 Hebr. eating be eaten.

23 Namely, before the Lord.

24 For an acceptable peace offering.

25 The Hebrew word here used signifies properly that which through age is grown to be of an ill scent, and favor, and color.

26 That is, man or person; and so in the sequel.

27 See Lev. 5 on verse 1.

19And 28the flesh that toucheth any unclean thing shall not be eaten; it shall be burnt with fire: and 29as for the flesh, 30all that be clean shall eat thereof.

28 Namely, of the peace offering; see the previous and the next verse.

29 Namely, that still remains, and has touched no unclean thing.

30 Namely, of the priests and of those who brought the sacrifice to be offered.

20But the soul that eatethcof the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that pertain unto the LORD, having his 31uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be cut off 32from his people.

c Lev. 15:3.

31 Understand, ceremonial uncleanness, whereof such an one shall not have cleansed himself yet, according as is prescribed below, Leviticus 21 and 22.

32 See Gen. 17 on verse 14.

21Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean thing, as the uncleanness of man, or any unclean beast, or any 33abominable unclean thing, and eat of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which pertain unto the LORD, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

33 That is, any such thing as is declared unclean, and therefore to be loathed and abhorred.

22¶And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

23Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat 34no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat.

34 See Lev. 3 on verse 17.

24And the fat of the beast that dieth of itself, and the fat of that which is torn with beasts, 35may be used 36in any other use: 37but ye shall in no wise eat of it.

35 Hebr. may be done.

36 That is, any kind of.

37 Hebr. eating thou shalt not eat.

25For whosoever eateth the fat of the beast, of which men offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD, even the soul that eateth it shall be cut off from his people.

26Moreoverd ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings.

d Gen. 9:4; Lev. 3:17; 17:14.

27Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

28¶And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

29Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, He that offereth the sacrifice of his peace offerings unto the LORD 38shall bring his oblation unto the LORD 39of the sacrifice of his peace offerings.

38 Namely, he shall bring it himself in person, not another for him. See the next verse.

39 That is, of those parts or pieces, which was to be offered either to God, or given to the priest.

30His own hands shall bring the offerings of the LORD made by fire, the fat 40with the breast, it shall he bring, thate the breast may be waved for a 41wave offering before the LORD.

40 Or, unto the breast.

e Exod. 29:24.

41 Understand, according to the opinion of some, such an offering, as was to be waved, or moved by the priest towards the four quarters of the world; and therefore is to be distinguished from the heave-offering, which was moved only by elevating or lifting upwards, verse 14. See likewise of this wave offering, Lev. 8:27; 9:21.

31And the priest shall burn the fat upon the altar: but the breast shall be Aaron's and his sons'.

32And the right shoulder shall ye give unto the priest for an heave offering of the sacrifices of your peace offerings.

33He among the sons of Aaron, that offereth the blood of the peace offerings, and the fat, shall have the 42right shoulder for his part.

42 See Exod. 29 on verse 22.

34For thef43wave breast and the 44heave shoulder have I taken of the children of Israel from off the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and have given them unto Aaron the priest and unto his sons by a statute 45for ever from among the children of Israel.

f Exod. 29:27; Num. 18:11.

43 Hebr. breast of waving, or moving. See on verse 14.

44 Hebr. shoulder of heaving, or elevating.

45 See Gen. 13 on verse 15.

35¶This is the portion of the 46anointing of Aaron, and of the anointing of his sons, out of the offerings of the LORD made by fire, 47in the day when 48he presented them to minister unto the LORD in the priest's office;

46 That is, the right or due and lawful portion appertaining to Aaron and his sons, by reason of their priestly office, whereunto they are called, and by the anointing hallowed and consecrated.

47 That is, from that day wherein they shall be consecrated in their office.

48 Moses, or, God by Moses. Other, when he (namely, Aaron) shall make them draw near.

3649Which the LORD commanded to be given them of the children of Israel, in the day that he anointed them, by a statute for ever throughout their generations.

49 Namely, portion.

37This is the law of the burnt offering, of the meat offering, and of the sin offering, and of the trespass offering, and of the 50consecrations, and of the sacrifice of the peace offerings;

50 Or, the consecration-offering. Hebr. of the fillings; for, the priests, when they were installed into their office, had their hands filled with sacrifice; or, with that sacrifice was their confirmation in the priestly office fulfilled. See Exod. 28:41; 29:9; 32:29; Lev. 8:33; 1 Kings 13:33; Ezek. 43:26.

38Which the LORD commanded Moses in mount Sinai, in the day that he commanded the children of Israel to offer their oblations unto the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai.
