e Exod. 36:14.

8 That is, for a cover or deck over it, as verses 9, 11, 12, 13. This was the second cover of the tabernacle, serving to protect the same against winds and rain.

8The length 9of one curtain shall be 10thirty cubits, and the breadth of one curtain four cubits: and the eleven curtains shall be all of one measure.

9 That is, of every one of them.

10 These curtains were two cubits longer than the other spoken of above, verse 2.

9And thou shalt 11couple five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves, and shalt 12double the sixth curtain in the 13forefront of the tabernacle.

11 Namely, by their loops.

12 That is, fold it, or turn it about by the middle, or the one half.

13 Hebr. right before upon the face of the tent.

10And thou shalt make fifty loops 14on the edge of the one curtain that is outmost in the coupling, and fifty loops in the edge of the curtain which coupleth the second.

15 Namely, of the last curtain.

16 Where the most holy place was, and where the ark of the covenant stood.

13And a cubit on the one side, and a cubit on the other side of that which remaineth in the length of the curtains of the tent, it shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle on this side and on that side, to cover it.

14And thou shalt make 17a covering for the tent of rams' skins dyed red, andf a covering above of 18badgers’ skins.

17 This covering served only to cover the roof or uppermost part of the tabernacle. This refers also to the next word – covering.

21 Hebr. the woman by her sister.

18And thou shalt make the boards for the tabernacle, twenty boards on the south side southward.

19And thou shalt make forty 22sockets of silver under the twenty boards; two sockets under one board for his two tenons, and two sockets under another board for his two tenons.

22 These were the feet or support of the boards whereon they stood, each one weighing a talent of silver, Exod. 38:27.

20And for the second 23side of the tabernacle on the north side there shall be twenty 24boards:

23 Hebr. rib.

24 Each board being one cubit and an half in breadth, verse 16; whence it appears that the length of the entire tabernacle was thirty cubits.

21And their forty sockets of silver; two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board.

22And for the sides of the tabernacle 25westward thou shalt make 26six boards.

25 See Gen. 12:8. Hebr. sea-ward, or, toward the seaside.

26 These six boards were nine cubits wide, each board being one cubit and an half wide; and they were all joined together to make the tabernacle close and tight in the back.

23And two boards shalt thou make for the corners of the tabernacle in the two sides.

24And they shall be 27coupled together beneath, and they shall be 28coupled together above the head of it unto one ring: thus shall it be for them both; they shall be for the two corners.

27 The meaning is: they shall be made alike fast to the boards of the sides and to the farther end of the tabernacle, coupling or fastening them together in this manner.

28 Other, perfected.

25And they shall be eight boards, and their sockets of silver, sixteen sockets; two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board.

30 Or, westward, looking to both sides.

28And the middle bar in the midst of the boards shall reach from end to end.

29And thou shalt overlay the boards with gold, and make their rings of gold for 31places for the bars: and thou shalt overlay the bars with gold.

31 Hebr. houses for, etc. That is, serving for the bars to be put through and rest in them.

3032Andh thou shalt rear up the tabernacle according to the fashion thereof which was shewed thee in the mount.

32 When all the parts of the tabernacle were fitted and perfected, then there remained nothing but to bring it in a frame together and to rear up the tabernacle as it was to stand.

h Exod. 25:9, 40; Acts 7:44; Heb. 8:5.

31¶And thou shalt make 33a vailiof blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen of cunning work: with 34cherubims 35shall it be made:

33 This veil was instead of a separation, or a partition wall, between the Holy place, and the most Holy, or Holy of Holies, into which only the high priest was permitted to enter once a year; and this is the veil which the apostle, Heb. 9:3, calls the second veil. There was another veil at the door or entrance of the tabernacle. See likewise Lev. 4:6.

i Exod. 36:35; curtain.

34 See Gen. 3:24.

35 Or, shall he make it; namely, Bezaleel, or the master workman.

32And thou shalt 36hang it 37upon four pillars of shittim wood overlaid with gold: their hooks shall be of gold, upon the four sockets of silver.

36 Hebr. give, and so verse 33.

37 That is, on the hooks which shall be fastened to the pillars.

33¶And thou shalt hang up the vail 38under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail 39the ark of the testimony: and 40the vail shall divide unto you between the 41holy place and 42the most holy.

38 Whereof see verse 6.

39 See Exod. 25:16.

40 The veil was peculiarly made for this end, to keep the people out, and hinder their going in, yea even looking into the most holy place where the ark was; Exod. 40:3. See likewise Heb. 9:8.

41 Hebr. the holiness.

42 Hebr. the Holy of Holies; and also in the next verse.

34And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy place.

35And thou shalt set 43the table 44without the vail, and the candlestick over against the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south: and thou shalt put the table on the north side.

43 Understand the table on which the showbread was to lie.

44 Namely, into the holy place where the priests administered.

36And thouj shalt make 45an hanging for the door of the tent, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, wrought with needlework.

j Exod. 36:37.

45 This was at the entrance of the door, yea, it was in a manner the door itself in front of the entry of the tabernacle, where the priests went daily in and out to serve and administer within the holy place; but the people were not permitted to enter therein, Heb. 9:2, 6.

37And thou shalt make for the hanging five pillars of shittim wood, and overlay 46them with gold, and their hooks shall be of gold: and thou shalt cast five sockets of brass for them.

46 Not that they were to be overlaid with gold all over, but only the chapiters and the fillets thereof, Exod. 36:38.
