1*FORASMUCH as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of athose things which are most surely believed among us,

5¶There was hin the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, iof the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

6jAnd they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

13But the angel said unto him, uFear not, Zacharias: vfor thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

18And Zacharias said unto the angel, dWhereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well *stricken in years.

21And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.

22And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for hhe beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.

29And when she saw him , tshe was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what *manner of salutation this should be.

34Then said Mary unto the angel, bHow shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

36fAnd, behold, thy *cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

41And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the jbabe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was kfilled with the Holy *Ghost:

56And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

57Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and cshe brought forth a son.
