Job 1

1Job's uprightness, family, wealth, and religious concern for his children. 6Satan appeareth before God, falsely accuseth Job, and obtaineth leave to tempt him. 13Job, receiving successive accounts of the calamities that deprived him of all his substance and his children, in his mourning blesseth God.


1THERE was a man in the land of aUz, whose name was bJob; and that man was cperfect and upright, and one that feared God, and d*eschewed evil.

4And his isons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

7And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From rgoing to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

9Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

10Hast not thou ymade an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast zblessed the work of his hands, and his 8substance is increased in the land.
