Jeremiah

Jeremiah 34

1Jeremiah prophesieth the destruction of Jerusalem, and the fate of Zedekiah. 8The princes and people having according to covenant let their bondservants go free, afterward reassume them: 12Jeremiah proclaimeth liberty to the sword, the pestilence, and the famine, and prophesieth the return of the Babylonians to execute vengeance upon them.

1THE word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, awhen Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and ball the kingdoms of the earth of 1his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all cthe cities thereof, saying,

1Heb. the dominion of his hand.

2Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD; dBehold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:

d ch. 32.3,4,28,29; 19.3,12; 21.4-10; 22.5; 37.8,10,17; 38.23; 39.8; 52.13.

3And ethou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and 2he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.

2Heb. his mouth shall speak to thy mouth.

e ch. 32.3,4. v.21; 37.17; 38.23. Eze. 12.13; 17.18,20; 21.25. ch. 39.5-7; 52.9-11.

4Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of thee, fThou shalt not die by the sword:

f ch. 39.7; 52.11. Eze. 12.13; 17.20; 21.25. 2Ki. 25.7.

5But thou shalt die in peace: and gwith the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours for thee; and hthey will lament thee, saying , Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the LORD.

g 2Ch. 16.14; 21.19. La. 4.20. h ch. 22.18.

6Then Jeremiah the prophet ispake all these words unto Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,

i 2Sa. 12.7. 1Ki. 21.19. Eze. 2.7. Mat. 14.4.

7When the king of Babylon's army fought against Jerusalem, and jagainst all the cities of Judah that were left, against kLachish, and against Azekah: for lthese defenced cities remained of the cities of Judah.
