Genesis 37

1The history of Joseph, who is hated of his brethren. 5His first dream. 9His second dream. 12Jacob sendeth him to visit his brethren. 18They conspire his death, but Reuben saveth him. 23He is cast into a pit, and afterwards taken out, and sold to the Ishmeelites. 29Reuben, not finding him in the pit, is sorely grieved. 31Jacob deceived by the bloody coat mourneth for him. 36He is sold to Potiphar in Egypt.


1AND Jacob dwelt in the land 1wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.

2These are athe generations of Jacob. Joseph, being bseventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's cwives: and Joseph brought unto his father dtheir evil report.

5¶And Joseph idreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they jhated him yet the more.

7For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your ksheaves stood round about, and lmade *obeisance to my sheaf.

9¶And he ndreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; oand, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made *obeisance to me.

15¶And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?

16And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.

17And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to vDothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.

26And Judah said unto his brethren, gWhat profit is it if we slay our brother, and hconceal his blood?

29¶And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he mrent his clothes.
