1A lamentation for Israel. 4An exhortation to repentance. 21God rejecteth their hypocritical service.


1HEAR aye this word which I take up against you, even a blamentation, O house of Israel.

4¶For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, hSeek ye me, and ye shall live:

5But iseek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to jBeer-sheba: for kGilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.

12For yI know your zmanifold transgressions and your mighty sins: athey afflict the just, they btake 4a bribe, and cthey turn aside the poor din the gate from their right.

13Therefore the prudent eshall keep silence in that time; for it is an fevil time.

16Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; nWailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the *husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.
